The bottom line of good nutrition in ten simple steps from Sydney dietitian, Lynda Hamilton.

I am a firm believer that everyone is individual with different needs, but if pushed for my 10 bottom lines, here, in a nutshell is what you should be eating as part of a healthy, balanced diet packed with good nutrition.

The Bottom Line of Good Nutrition

1. Maintain a healthy body weight

2. Exercise regularly

3. Vegetable intake minimum 5 per day

4. Legumes (such as beans, lentiils and peas) at least twice per week

5. Oily fish 2-3 times per week (150g per serve) and/or daily fish oil supplement

6. Two vegetarian days per week – but eggs, dairy and even fish ok

7. Only eat meat twice a week

8. Nuts and seeds ( 30-50g) up to 5 times per week

9. Choose from a range of grains eg quinoa, buckwheat etc

10. Limit processed and refined foods including ham, bacon, salami, processed sausages; white bread, pasta and rice; pastries full of trans fats; ready meals and sauces.
